Courses offered through the Center for Business & Industry are self-supporting through tuition and fees. Please register early to avoid disappointment. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Registrations are not accepted without payment in full or by submitting third-party authorization. We accept MasterCard, Visa, Discover and American Express credit cards, as well as checks and money orders. We can only accept cash at our bookstore locations.

Attendance Policy
In order to receive a Certificate of Completion or Continuing Education Units (CEUs), students must attend 75% of the scheduled classes and meet the evaluation criteria set by the course instructor.

Certificates of Completion
Certificates of Completion are awarded upon completion of most non-degree courses/programs. Individual participants will receive a certificate suitable for framing. The certificate indicates only that the individual met the attendance requirements for the program.

Certification Programs
Certification Programs provide participants the opportunity to enhance current skills and increase opportunities for success by participation in an objective evaluation process. Participants satisfactorily completing each program evaluation within a carefully planned sequence of individual programs, earn certification in a specially designated discipline/content area. Certification programs, where applicable, are described in detail within individual program areas.

Changes to Program Offerings
SCC reserves the right to modify or cancel programs and substitute presenters without notice at SCC's own discretion.

Confirmation
Your class reservation is confirmed by payment of fee. If your student profile includes an email address, you will receive an automatic confirmation when the registration has been processed. Please be sure to mark your class information on your calendar. You will be notified only if your class has been canceled or is already filled.

Continuing Education Units
Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are a nationally recognized means of recording non-credit study. Many employers and re-licensure agencies accept them as evidence of your serious commitment to career advancement and the maintenance of professional competence. One CEU is defined as 10 contact hours of satisfactory participation in an organized continuing education experience, under responsible sponsorship, capable direction, and qualified instruction.

Copyright
All programs are copyrighted; therefore video, audio, and/or photographic recordings are not permitted. Materials distributed as a part of any program entitle the user to reference the materials, but not reproduce, distribute, or store them electronically, photographically, video graphically, digitally, or by any other means.

Laboratory Access
The Center for Business and Industry IT courses and workshops offer hands-on instruction in one of the dedicated computer classrooms located at South Central College or Technology Plus Center in Mankato. Because these facilities are extensively scheduled for a complete array of program offerings, additional laboratory time is not included in the program fee. Some instructional programs require or suggest additional computer time to complete assignments or practice related exercises.

Payment Policy & Forms of Payment
Full payment is required at the time of registration for individuals enrolling for participation in a course. The majority of our course fees include instructional materials and use of related facilities during the period established for instruction. Occasionally, students will be advised to purchase their book(s) in advance. Meals and/or beverage breaks are included only if specifically mentioned in individual program descriptions. Travel and lodging are not included. For more information on travel and lodging, please refer to the Maps & Directions section of this website. The Center for Business and Industry will not be liable for unusable or non-refundable expenses incurred in anticipation of participation in a program that is cancelled for any reason. Payment for individual registrations may be made by personal or company check, money order, by credit card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express accepted), cash, or by submitting request for third-party authorization (Bill-to-company). A third-party authorization must be approved by an authorized representative of the company.

Registration & Program Availability
Registration in any program may be made via the instructions outlined in the Registration section of this website. As registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis, we encourage registering early. Because most programs are maintained with strict census limitations, wait lists will be established for programs which exceed capacity. All space is subject to availability. Our online registration system enables students to add themselves to waiting lists. Senior Enrollment Policy
Minnesota Legislature made a Senior Citizen Statutory Change for the age at which seniors qualify for the senior citizen administrative fee in lieu of tuition. Effective 8/1/2010, that age changed from age 62 to 66. Minnesota residents 66 years or older may register tuition free on a space-available basis. Senior students must meet all prerequisites and course requirements. Books must be purchased from the college bookstore, and paying students will be accommodated first. Qualified seniors should contact the CBI Registration Assistant no more than one business day before the class is scheduled to begin. If space is available in the class, registration will be taken at that time.

Senior Enrollees are subject to the following class fees: CREDIT COURSES: Seniors will pay a $20.00 per credit registration fee. Courses may be taken for a grade or may be audited. The student is also responsible for any material or textbook costs. NON-CREDIT COURSES: Seniors are responsible for the cost of materials and textbooks. Courses that are targeted to Senior Citizens are exempt from this tuition policy.

Software Licensing
All software used in the presentation of our programs has been licensed to the College for its exclusive use in an educational setting. Program participants are prohibited from copying, transmitting or otherwise moving the software in any form.

Smoking
As of July 1, 2010, smoking, tobacco use and tobacco sales (including the use or sales of smokeless tobacco products) are prohibited on college owned, operated or leased property.

Special Needs & Accommodations
Individuals who need special assistance or accommodations to participate in any South Central College event or activity, please contact the Academic Support Center at 507-389-7339 or 1-800-722-9359 or (TTY) 507-389-7200. Please allow a seven business days notice in advance of the accommodation need. Accommodation requests received at a later date will be honored to the best of our ability. Please advise your registration assistant when you register.It is the policy of South Central College to comply with the provisions of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Qualified students with disabilities will be provided equal access to college programs, services, and activities, and will not be subject to discrimination.

Tax Deduction for Educational Expenses
Program fees and expenses for professional development purposes (including travel, meals, and lodging) paid to maintain and improve professional skills may be tax deductible. The Center for Business and Industry recommends that you seek the advice of the IRS or a qualified tax advisor to determine your individual status.

Transcript Information
A complete, computerized record of each professional development activity attended at South Central College is maintained for those individuals completing a program. Individuals can request an official transcript by contacting the office of the Registrar at South Central College by calling (507) 389-7354. A nominal service charge applies for official transcripts.

 

CANCELLATION, TRANSFER, SUBSTITUTION, CLASS DATE CHANGE POLICY

Professional & Continuing Education Classes

Cancellation
If you find it necessary to cancel your registration, please contact the CBI registration office immediately at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it or 507-389-7203 or 507-331-4290. Tuition will be refunded:

  • For cancellation notifications received three (3) business days prior to the first class date.
    • Notifications will be accepted using telephone, U.S. Mail, fax, e-mail, or hand delivery.
  • Cancellation appeals received after three (3) business days prior to the first class date will not receive a refund without written authorization from the Program Manager.
  • For courses which provide course materials prior to the first class date, a two week notice to drop the course is required or a $75 administrative fee will be charged. Class materials must be returned within 5 business days of withdrawing from the course or your account will be charged for the full material price.
  • For courses provided by CBI vendor partners, SCC will defer to their refund/return policies as stated in their individual contracts and agreements. For information on a specific vendor/return policy, please contact CBI at 507.389.7203.

Transfers

  • For transfer notifications received three (3) business days prior to the first class date, notifications will be approved and accepted using telephone, U.S. Mail, fax, e-mail, or hand delivery.
  • Transfer appeals received after three (3) business days prior to the first class date will not be approved without written authorization from the Program Manager.
  • Transfer appeals received after five (5) business days from the first class date will not be approved.

Substitutions 

  • Substitutions for one class participant for another will be approved.
  • Substitutes arriving on the first class date will be required to document the substitution in writing on the class roster and complete registration materials prior to the beginning of class.
  • Unfortunately, Continuing Education Unit (CEU) credit will not be awarded for substitutions made after the first class date.

 

Contract Classes

Cancellation
Contract Training may be cancelled by the Purchaser or the College/University at any time, with or without cause, upon thirty (30) days written notice to the other party. In the event of such a cancellation, the College/University shall be entitled to payment, determined on a pro rata basis, for work or Instruction/Activity/Service satisfactorily performed.

Date Change
Requests for a contract training date change will be approved at the discretion of the Program Manager. Requests will be accepted using telephone, U.S. Mail, fax, e-mail or hand delivery.

Credit Classes
Formal withdrawal for credit courses must be completed by 4:00 p.m. the business day following the first class date to be eligible for a 100% refund. Students must notify the South Central College's Center for Business and Industry.

SCC Cancelled Class
Students enrolled in an activity that is cancelled by South Central College Center for Business and Industry are entitled to a full refund. South Central College reserves the right to cancel activities that do not meet minimum enrollment levels or for other good cause. Students will be notified of cancellations prior to the first class date.
